During times of digital learning, the Hertie School organised a series of online trainings to allow PhD researchers to advance their professional and methods skills.
PhD researchers from across the CIVICA network were invited to attend workshops on "How to write your academic CV and cover letter," "How to teach online," "How to write with policy impact," "Writing your journal article," and "Introduction to teaching in higher education."
213 PhD researchers applied to participate in the online PhD workshops. More than half of the applicants hail from Hertie School's CIVICA partners: Bocconi University, Central European University, European University Institute, National University of Political Studies and Public Administration, Sciences Po, and The London School of Economics and Political Sciences.
"This course provided me with the tools I need to face a changing pedagogical landscape that demands a lot of flexibility, creativity and skills from teachers - both in the classroom and online," commented one of the workshop participants. Another added: "The class improved my understanding of what good policy writing is based on, what it looks like and what should be avoided. The instructors were able to boil down policy writing to its essence."
In the workshop “How to write with policy impact," participants produced policy briefs and op-eds based on their research. Some of these outputs are published below.
