A collaboration between SGH Warsaw School of Economics and CIVICA partner universities has supported new research connections, academic exchange and joint research initiatives through the CIVICA+ project, ‘Advancing Academic Excellence: CIVICA Collaboration for Research, Didactics, Dual Degrees, AI Training, and Scientific Internships’.

Funded by the Polish Agency for Academic Exchange (NAWA), the project supported research visits and an international conference, creating opportunities for researchers and PhD students to exchange knowledge and develop new collaborations.

Research visits and opportunities for PhD students

Between April and August 2026, nine long-term research visits enabled SGH researchers to spend several weeks at six CIVICA partners universities. During their visits they engaged in research collaboration, seminars & trainings, benefited from unique collections in CIVICA libraries, investigated institutional solutions and research strategies, co-written articles and prepared grant applications.

The project also supported 14 short study visits to six CIVICA partner universitiesbetween February and September 2026, involving 13 SGH PhD students. Accompanied by their supervisors, participants received feedback on their doctoral research plans, engaged with international research communities and explored opportunities for future collaboration.

Bringing researchers together

In April 2026, SGH hosted the '1st CIVICA at SGH Conference: The EU Economy and Society in the 21st Century—Governance, Environment, and Democracy at the Crossroads'. Representatives from five CIVICA partner universities joined the conference, creating further opportunities to exchange ideas and establish research collaborations.

Building on the collaboration

The project has contributed to further research activity, including a Horizon Europe application and eight articles at different stages of development, as well as a conference book. The research has covered topics such as well-being and the future of work, social policies addressing demographic challenges, digital transformation and innovation, long-term socioeconomic change, and international regulation.

Beyond these outputs, the project has helped strengthen research connections across the CIVICA alliance and provided opportunities to develop skills in research collaboration, academic career development, and project management. It also reflects the alliance’s wider ambition to foster closer academic cooperation and explore opportunities for future collaboration, including dual-degree programmes.
