Collaboration for Transparency and Shared Responsibility
Open access at CIVICA reflects a shared belief in collaboration, transparency and shared responsibility. Each partner university contributes by developing institutional repositories, adopting open publishing policies and supporting researchers in making their work publicly available. Together, these initiatives create an ecosystem where knowledge can circulate more easily and have greater impact.
Partnering with OpenAIRE to Advance Open Science
CIVICA is now taking the next step in its open access journey through a developing partnership with OpenAIRE, a European initiative advancing open science. The alliance is introducing the CIVICA Research CONNECT Gateway, a central platform designed to bring together research outputs from member universities. Built on the FAIR principles (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable and Reusable). The gateway will help increase the visibility of research and lay the groundwork for future collaboration across the alliance.
Empowering Libraries and Open Science Communities
CIVICA’s libraries are also playing an essential role. They promote open science practices, offer training and provide guidance to researchers who want to share their work openly. At the same time, initiatives like Open Science Communities foster collaboration and exchange among academics and librarians who are shaping new standards for openness across Europe.
Building a More Inclusive Research Environment
By investing in shared tools, policies and networks, CIVICA is creating the conditions for a more inclusive research environment. Open access ensures that valuable knowledge is not limited to those with subscriptions or institutional access but is available to anyone eager to learn or contribute.
Through these efforts, CIVICA continues to demonstrate that openness benefits everyone; from students gaining access to resources, to researchers finding new collaborators, to societies enriched by freely available knowledge.
