CIVICA has opened its 4th Call for Thematic Activities, inviting faculty at partner universities to submit proposals for collaborative workshops and small-scale conferences. The call aims to strengthen existing research connections and establish new ones across the alliance, bringing together faculty, postdoctoral researchers and doctoral students.

Thematic activities can explore CIVICA’s interdisciplinary research themes, including democracy, societal transitions, climate and environmental challenges, Europe, data-driven technologies and AI, and security and resilience. Proposals on management, economics and finance are also welcome. Activities may include workshops, conferences or co-funded events that demonstrate clear added value for CIVICA.

Eligibility: Proposals must be led by permanent faculty or academic, teaching or research employees on long-term contracts at a CIVICA university. Postdoctoral researchers and/or doctoral students from CIVICA universities must be involved. Only CIVICA faculty members, postdoctoral researchers and doctoral students can receive funding.

Funding: Eligible expenses directly related to the activity may be covered, including hosting costs, catering, travel and accommodation, subject to Erasmus+ rules and the financial regulations and available budget of each partner university. Applicants should consult their university’s grant coordination unit before submitting a proposal.

Timeline:

  • Application deadline: 25 January 2027, 23:59 CET
  • Results announced: 26 February 2027
  • Activities take place: 1 March 2027 – 1 June 2028

Faculty interested in developing research collaborations across CIVICA are encouraged to apply and bring colleagues together around shared academic interests.
