This interactive online workshop will introduce participants to the concept of fake news and explore why it spreads so easily. Using real-world examples, the session will examine different forms of false or misleading information, including misinformation, disinformation, propaganda, satirical fake news, mercenary fake news, and so-called “pink slime” journalism.
The focus of the workshop is practical. Participants will learn concrete strategies for identifying unreliable information and dealing with fake news in academic and everyday contexts.

About the workshop facilitator: Riyan Buragohain is a graduating MA student in International Relations at Central European University and a voluntary conflict researcher at the Heidelberg Institute for International Conflict Research. Riyan is also a teaching volunteer for the CEU Matura Support Program and has conducted several workshops in Floridsdorf gymnasium on topics such as critical thinking, propaganda, fake news, and trustworthy sources for academic research. His research focuses on feminist international relations and feminist security studies.
