CIVICA is an innovative European project in the field of higher education and research. It aims at implementing and developing new forms of cooperation bringing together world-class universities or institutions in the field of social sciences.
Mission
The European Project Officer will contribute actively in the coordination, drafting and submission of the next European Universities Initiative project proposal (Erasmus+), which will ensure the continuity of the current project (2022-2026). In parallel, the European Project Officer will support the CIVICA Secretariat team in monitoring the successful implementation of the ongoing project activities in liaison with the relevant teams at partner institutions. This role also offers the opportunity to contribute to high-level institutional coordination, including support for the preparation of the annual Presidents’ Committee meeting and the drafting of the CIVICA Activity Report 2026.
This position presents a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in contributing to one of the most advanced Erasmus+ transnational cooperation alliances in Europe.
Based in Paris at Sciences Po (leading institution), the European Project Officer will report to both the CIVICA Executive Director and the CIVICA Project Manager.
Main responsibilities
Development and management of the CIVICA alliance
Within the CIVICA Secretariat and under the supervision of the CIVICA Project Manager, the European Project Officer will contribute to the development of CIVICA and support the operational management of the project for the Coordinator (WP1), with responsibilities including:
Coordinating the preparation of the Erasmus+ project proposal for CIVICA’s next phase (2026–2028), in close collaboration with partner institutions: proposal drafting, data collection, collaborative design of the work programme, KPI monitoring, and proofreading.
Supporting the drafting and the coordination of the budget for the next proposal in liaison with the Work Package leaders.
Preparing strategic and technical documents for the alliance’s governance and management meetings.
Closely monitoring the current work programme (ending September 2026), including deliverables, milestones, and KPIs.
Contributing to the organisation of the CIVICA Retreat
Supporting the design of the CIVICA Sustainability Strategy (fall 2025).
Preparing the 2025-2026 Activity Report (Spring 2026), including data collection, design, and content development, as well as contributing to the preparation of the Presidents’ Committee meeting.
Coordination of CIVICA Activities
Participating in WP5 meetings (Early-Stage Researchers) and overseeing the delivery of the related CIVICA Certificates (in liaison with the CIVICA Project Officer).
Participating in WP6 meetings (Permanent Design Team and Research Management Team). and contributing to the potential developments related to the research environment of the alliance.
Participation in WPs or CIVICA related meetings according to the project needs.
Profile
Graduate degree in European or International Affairs, Public Policy, or a related field;
2 to 5 years of experience, ideally in the higher education or research sectors;
Proven experience in managing European or international projects (ideally Erasmus+ or Horizon); experience in grant writing is a strong asset;
Interest for European higher education and research and advanced transnational European cooperation project;
Fluency in English is essential, with excellent written drafting skills;
Analytical skills and interest for EC policy environment;
Proficiency in French is desirable, and knowledge of additional languages spoken in countries where CIVICA operates is a plus;
Ability to manage multiple projects/tasks simultaneously and independently;
Excellent communication, coordination and organisational skills;
Attention to detail is essential;
Good with numbers (would be a plus) - good command of Excel
A combination of diplomatic and entrepreneurial spirit;
Prior student or professional experience within a CIVICA member institution is a plus;
Flexibility and availability for travel across Europe.
Conditions of employment
7/9 months covering the academic year 2025/2026 - temporary contract (Contrat à durée déterminée)
Starting date: 1 October 2025
Full time – Paris based
French private contract with the Fondation Nationale des Sciences Politiques
Salary range: chargé de mission niveau 1 to 2 (depending on profile and seniority)
