Expanding 'CIVICA for Ukraine': Strengthening ties among European Universities
CIVICA enhances support for Ukrainian academic institutions in a new phase of academic cooperation initiative.
The 'CIVICA for Ukraine' project aims to develop and strengthen cooperation and dialogue between the CIVICA alliance and the academic communities of selected Ukrainian universities, particularly in the social sciences, humanities, management, and public policy. The project includes a variety of activities for students, doctoral candidates, faculty and staff exchanges from Ukrainian universities, such as conferences, study visits, internships, summer schools, seminars, workshops, and more.
As part of the NAWA initiative 'Solidarity with Ukraine', the project is led by SGH Warsaw School of Economics and it involves all CIVICA universities and five Ukrainian universities; Kyiv National Economic University named after Vadym Hetman (KNEU), Vasyl’ Stus Donetsk National University (DonNU), Ukrainian Catholic University in Lviv (UKU), National University “Kyiv-Mohyla Academy" (NaUKMA) and Kyiv School of Economics (KSE).

Faculty and postdoctoral researchers from Ukrainian partner institutions (KSE, KNEU, NaUKMA, UCU and DonNU) are invited to submit proposals for a short visit, up to 5 working days, at a CIVICA university.
The achievements of CIVICA for Ukraine in 2023 include the implementation of 9 activities, during which 117 mobility experiences for Ukrainian participants were organised (51 students and doctoral candidates, 66 academic and administrative staff), including 34 short staff and faculty visits. The Project's 2023 results encompass 5 reports: on the challenges and needs of Ukrainian universities; on the students’ vision for Ukraine's recovery; analysis of good practices in CIVICA universities as a summary of study visits; CIVICA and Ukraine Universities students associations database; and a report from the Observer track in FuturEU, as well as videos, speeches, essays, presentations, and publications by students and scholars at CIVICA events, along with numerous publications in SGH Warsaw School of Economics, CIVICA, and Ukrainian university media and social media under the hashtag #CIVICA4Ukraine.
The CIVICA alliance and its member universities are committed to acting as an open university dedicated to fostering respectful dialogue, to the protection of academic freedom, autonomy and knowledge exchange, and to the fundamental EU values of justice, tolerance and solidarity.
Equally moved in this spirit, the CIVICA member universities - including the two new added partners IE University and SGH Warsaw School of Economics - are actively working to support all those who are currently at risk.
