The Hertie School offers stipends for CIVICA alumni to attend “Rebuilding Europe” conference in Brussels

Focus is on recovery of the European Union after COVID-19 and on strengthening the CIVICA network.
Alumni from the Hertie School and the CIVICA university network are invited to apply for 10 stipends to an alumni conference on Rebuilding Europe: EU recovery after Covid-19 from 8 – 10 October 2020 in Brussels.
The stipend covers participants’ flights, accommodation and meals during the conference. In total, 10 alumni (approx. 50% from the Hertie School and 50% from other CIVICA universities) are eligible to participate.
The conference aims to strengthen and connect alumni networks within CIVICA – The European University of Social Sciences. The workshop includes keynote speeches by prominent researchers, diplomatic representatives and members of the Hertie School leadership, along with fishbowl discussions, networking sessions and visits to European governance-related venues in Brussels.
Alumni conference on Rebuilding Europe: EU recovery after Covid-19
The conference is organised in cooperation with the Hertie School's Jacques Delors Centre. The synergies between academic and policy analysis make the Centre a unique place for European research, debate, and visions. Since its establishment in September 2018, the Centre has steadily enhanced its profile in research, teaching and outreach. By integrating academic findings and think tank work, the Centre brings facts and analysis to the discussions on European policy and drives them forward. In this way, it strives to promote a strong Europe in the spirit of its namesake, French politician and former European Commission President Jacques Delors.
The conference objective. The coronavirus crisis has sparked a political urgency for common European solutions. Solidarity is a guiding principle of the EU, and Jacques Delors has warned that a lack thereof will put the EU project in “mortal danger”, fomenting Euroscepticism as in past crises. To regain the full support of its citizens, the EU urgently requires a concrete political approach for solidarity and proposals for tangible measures in the pandemic’s global aftermath.
This conference brings together alumni from the CIVICA partners and top researchers from partner programmes in the heart of Europe to discuss key political and economic challenges for EU institutions, as well as ways to strengthen European cooperation in light of the pandemic.

Eligibility:
- You are an alum of the Hertie School or any other CIVICA university in our network (Bocconi University, Central European University, the European University Institute, the National University of Political Studies and Public Administration, Sciences Po, the Stockholm School of Economics or the London School of Economics and Political Science)
- You will be able to attend the entire conference (8 – 10 October 2020)
