CIVICA inclusion workshop kicks off in CEU Auditorium with roundtable discussion

CEU organised a three-day workshop for members of CIVICA on inclusion, with panel participants from across the CIVICA alliance.
CEU organised a three-day workshop for members of the CIVICA alliance on the subject of inclusion. The very first event was a roundtable discussion held at the CEU campus in Vienna. Panel participants were Katalin Karsai from the Hertie School, Sebastien Huber from EUI and Maria Keplinger from the Austrian Federal Ministry of Education, Science and Research, with moderation from Flora Laszlo, Director of Community Engagement at CEU.
The aim of the discussion was to address how different institutions in higher education and government were generally dealing with the topic of inclusion and diversity within the educational faculty as well as among students. Inclusion in higher education is universally defined as the persistent and developmental process to improve education systems worldwide in order to meet everyone’s needs, particularly concentrating on people coming from marginalised groups.
Within the framework of the three-day workshop there was a whole host of programmes highlighting different aspects on the topic of inclusion. Maxime Forest and Violette Toye from Sciences Po's PRESAGE facilitated the debate during the second day of the workshop on “Gender Equality and Inclusion in Higher Education," while on the third and last day, CEU and LSE experts Natalia Nyikes and Helen Rosemont led a roundtable discussion on “Inclusion of Disabled Students.” The eight university members of CIVICA had representatives present, who actively contributed to the various conversations and discussions where they had the opportunity to exchange thoughts and experiences as well as to coordinate benchmarks that they deem achievable in the recent future. This was one of the first in-person events to be organised since the pandemic pushed everything online and in this aspect was a sigh of relief to all participants as a sign of a return to normalcy.
