CIVICA takes center stage at the 2nd Forum of European University Alliances

The second edition of the Forum of European University Alliances is set to kick off in Barcelona, Spain, on the 14th and 15th of September, drawing representatives from various university alliances, the European Commission, Member States, and students.

This prestigious event, promoted by the Spanish Presidency of the Council of the European Union, will provide a platform for dialogue and the exchange of ideas on critical issues facing European alliances today.

The historic Fabra i Coats textile mill in the Sant Andreu district, dating back to the early 20th century, will serve as the backdrop for this crucial gathering. The forum will feature hybrid sessions, allowing attendees from around the world to participate online and contribute to discussions through written questions

The European Universities Initiative, launched in 2017, has since brought together 50 alliances, encompassing over 430 higher education institutions spanning 35 countries, alongside 1,700 associate partners. The initiative is rapidly progressing towards its goal of establishing 60 alliances, covering 500 universities by mid-2024.

The overarching objective of these long-term strategic alliances is to champion European identity, values, excellence, and transformation. The initiative has consistently encouraged alliances that push the boundaries of conventional education and foster innovation.

Among the distinguished representatives at the forum is Carsten Schneider, Pro-Rector for External Relations at Central European University (CEU) and a member of the Steering Committee of the CIVICA alliance. Schneider will participate in plenary session II, titled "Bringing the European Universities initiative closer to European society," where he will share insights and perspectives on strengthening the bond between European universities and society.

CIVICA - The European University of Social Sciences, is a prominent participant in this dynamic gathering, underscoring its commitment to advancing the goals of the European Universities Initiative. As the forum unfolds in Barcelona, attendees can look forward to robust discussions and collaborative efforts aimed at shaping the future of higher education in Europe and beyond.
